Zetta loves writing letters to the editor

Dear Editor,
I couldn't believe my eyes when I read Felice Dunas' comment on burnout (Mail Call, June 2006).
She instructs the writer to receive chi by looking at a photo of someone you like to look at, and get nourishing chi from their gaze. She indicates that she herself uses photos of models from magazines! Please don't print things like this. This advice is irresponsible and ridiculous. Looking at photos in magazines is no remedy for burnout. Burnout is a real issue for many practitioners. I'm sure Dr. Dunas has much better advice about how to be successful and energetic in work than this. If she doesn't, time to hire a new columnist. Also, if I am someone who is unfamiliar with acupuncture, and I happen on this paper and read Dr. Dunas' column, I'm going to think that acupuncturists and their ilk are out of their minds and do not know what they are talking about.

We need to be responsible for creating our worklife so that it can be sustainable. My practice management class didn't have one thing to say about how to take care of ourselves in the course of building a practice. There is precious little in the way of resources for practitioners who may want to try something new or creative within their work, and this is why so many people just quit. Because it is too hard. It doesn't have to be.
You had a great opportunity to open a conversation about responsibility, sustainability, and creativity. Instead you printed a piece that makes acupuncturists look weirder than ever.
And these pictures of Brad Pitt? Aren't doing much for my adrenals.

good work missy! but don't be surprized when you find pictures of celebrities all over the clinic for you and me and everybody we treat to get some good qi from gazing into their eyes.

I read the offending article as well, WTF? What she suggests is the equivelant to spiritual shoplifting! Really now! Here's a thought, maybe do some Qi Gong? Crazy, I know - but it does have some history in the realm of Qi cultivation. Just sayin'...
