An Open Letter To Someone Who Will Know Who She Is

Dear You,
You are in the midst of an opportunity to break a long standing pattern.
I want you to know that you are not required to be committed to things you have chosen in the past. All there is to do is take responsibility for those choices, and choose something else.
You do not need to justify your choice. You do not need to be concerned about how this particular choice impacts the way someone else may feel about you. However it is that other people feel about you is not really about you anyway.
You are empowered to choose whichever thing you choose, and for the sole reason that you choose it. The reason you are so angry is because you think you are powerless, which is not true.
This person will say anything to influence your choice. These anythings which are said to you are not the truth, and the saying of them does not grant the privilege of influencing your choosing. This has been borne out for centuries in the long, sordid Story of Boys and Girls.
You do not owe this person anything. Any feeling of indebtedness you may have is not a true thing either, and it is not your responsibility to have this individual feel okay about what you choose. That person is, like you, responsible for whatever thoughts or emotions come up.
Also, other people cannot compel you to feel or think anything: you do that all by yourself.
My wish for you in this moment is that you assume all the power that is yours, power you forgot you had, or maybe never wore before. This choosing belongs to you and you alone.

For the love of corn, dump him! (I'm not saying anything. I'm just saying.)

~yours trooly,
Me

No, Mark, I'm always on your side, even when I'm not.

True enough, I am quite sure this person knows who she is and I am certain she will thank you for your clarity.

I have never heard, "for the love of corn" before.
