Each year at precisely this time, the rain stops for about a week and the sun comes out and people are eating their lunch outside and the freeways are a mess! Due to too much sun in the eyes of the Portlanders. Things are blooming. Things are green. Had I known such a place existed when I was a kid, I would have wept. I am one of those people who thinks that where she lives is the best place in the world to live.
So is my dad. He lives in Minnesota. Born and raised. Lives and dies by the snowplow. In the summertime, he'll sigh deeply, smack at some mosquitoes, wipe the sweat out of his eyes and say: "Yep. This is god's country." In the wintertime, he'll dodge a frozen solid hunk of his breath falling out of the air and declare that it is a bit chilly, but not too bad. He sure loves his Minnesota. I guess somebody has to. Happy Spring!
