I am currently obsessed with the ancient cultures of the american southwest.
Instead of posting on this blog, I am going to continue reading my latest book on the subject.
Here is a photo I took in the spring of 2003 at Newspaper Rock in southeastern Utah. If you don't like this picture and you want to bitch about it, save it.

Hey Totally sweet! A friend of mine is practically an expert on such matters, as she is Native American and from that region (NM) and she has taught me a little bit about such things.
For instance, I can say that the central figure on the rock (the one with what appears to have a crown and dagger) is a Gon Spirit, which is a protector being for the Apache (perhaps other tribes but I'm not sure). Of course, its appropriate to point out that the name "Apache" actually means "fighting-men" in the Yuma language, the Apache's true name for themselves is Inde, or Nide - meaning The People. I have a t-shirt with the Gon Spirits on it. I'll have to show it to you sometime.
Also have what appears to be a horse and rider below the Gon Spirit suggests a post-Spanish contact period for the dating of the pictogram (or at least that portion).
I can't wait to show my friend, where exactly did you find it?
I tol' you. At Newspaper Rock in SE Utah. Very. Famous. Site.
Cool, huh? I have more.
