I have food stress.
I am making dinner right now for the VBM and me and our friend Waller.
For those of you who know Waller, take a moment to chuckle to yourselves.
So: total experiment.
I took a cut up chicken and dredged it in flour and browned it, piece by piece in an iron skillet. Set aside.
Then I got a head of garlic and got all the cloves off, but didn't peel them, and dry roasted them in the skillet. If you do this, oh with the easy off of garlic skin, which is a real pain in the ass sometimes because it is sticky and sticks to you and the cutting board and the floor and your face.
Chop chop the garlic and julienned an onion, sauteed in the skillet with some artichoke hearts and hmmm I found some capers in the fridge and threw them in there too. A glug of Chuck's best white, the juice of two Meyer lemons. Then I dumped the whole mess in the Evil Cake Lady's Le Crueset dutch oven, which I have had on loan forever and she wants it back, but I do NOT want to give it to her. Okay! And I do NOT know if this is going to be any good.
Also there are haricots verts to steam and I have some mixed rices simmering in a pot with dried cranberries and I suck at rice. (If Thursday's 230 has any idea how to help me with this, I would appreciate it, even though right now I am screwed.)
I am totally worried about all this. Which is dumb considering that Waller is a man who sent out a photo of himself naked to everyone in his address book, including his mother, and the text in this email message read: "Surprise motherfuckers!! I'm huge!"
AND this is a man who gave me a photo of himself for my birthday one year, and the next year gave me a photo of his roommate's dog.
The end.

Rice, is it? Well, hm. I use a rice cooker, works great. Otherwise, also bad at rice. Sorry. Your chicken creation sounds terrific and I'm sure Waller was/will be thrilled. Your food angst is like Pavarotti getting stage fright. I mean.
I'm getting some of those spiced nut recipes we talked about together for your delectation.
XO
I suspect I would be highly amused by the company of the Waller. If the world didn't spontaneously combust in the meeting.
I bet it turned out yummy...as does everything you cook.
How huge?
