The story of a day

Oh the early. The alarm was set for six AM but I forgot to actually turn it on. Lucky my morning-person self made it possible to open the eyes at six oh four. Rain. On this day every week I drive an hour to a mountain outpost where I have a fledgling practice. I am using said ouvre as a way to discern whether or not I want to and can live full time up there. On the way up just east of Sandy and then before the road to Marmot there is a small valley and from there and very briefly the mountain is visible in this very grandiose way--and then the tallest, most beautiful trees in the world obscure it again for many miles.
The mountain this rainy morning came out from behind the trees and clouds and it had two things on it which are very good things to see: sun, and snow. It glowed and was big like the harvest moon is big, and then it was gone.

I met a man today who had a great deal to talk about but one of the things he talked about was how he had been very hurt in a car wreck some years ago, and consequently had to spend some time in a trauma ward. He said that at night, these characters would come out, and they would try to scare him. He described them as being very ghoulish and midgety and as wearing tattered clothing. He said he knew they couldn't hurt him, and he thought that they were stuck there somehow. He said he thought that perhaps other people who were experiencing anesthesia saw them too. He said he hasn't seen them since. He also spoke briefly and tearfully about people around him dying in the trauma ward, and how their breath was cloying, and how sad he was about it.

After that I went and had some lunch at a local food haunt which is about 15 kinds of good. I had never been in before, but the people there knew me because one of my regulars goes in there and tells them about his experience with acupuncture.
I read the paper and smiled at these people who seemed to know all kinds of things about me.

Several other things happened that are worth mentioning but hard to explain: two different people saying the words "quantum physics" to me in the context of life altering experiences, two goals fulfilled in ways I could not predict, a new book to read.

Also: Whenever I am given the choice between magic and something else, I will choose magic every time.
