Russell Street Barbeque rocks!!!

The Russell Street Barbeque is the opposite of the Alameda Brewhouse.

Let me get something straight here. I'm not a foodie snob in the academic sense. I know how to cook food, and I have been paid to do so most of my adult life. Some of this food I was paid to cook sucked. I know enough about food to know if it tastes good. So if there are any foodies reading this who want to argue particulars with me, you can cram it. I know good. That is all.

On to Russell Street BBQ! Which rocks!
Oh! When we got there, we were seated immediately. I know this does not bode well in the scene, but we were hungry, so yay. The waitress was a living human being, and she had sparkle in her eye. She brought a pitcher of water, and took our drink order, which was filled promptly. I swooned. We ordered a half rack of baby back pork ribs and some pulled pork. Each came with two sides. We chose slaw, greens, mac-n-cheese, and potato salad. Corn bread was also included. I had wine and Very Bad Man opted for some rootbeer from the Laurelwood Brewhouse here in town. The ribs and pulled pork were both great. Tender, moist, and not over-sauced. The sides all well executed, especially the greens, which were a joy to eat: a bit toothsome and tasty with onions and whatever they braised 'em in. I suspect beef broth and salt. When our living server came to ask us how our food was, she appeared to care! I hung on her every word and wished she would never leave.

All this for 32$. And VBM did not have to tolerate my whining and bitching the whole time about the shoddy service and crappy food, which means it was good for our relationship.

Yay Russell Street Barbeque!!!

Why do you refer to him as "Very Bad Man?"

I used to go there when it was Doris' Cafe (excellent BBQ) and I was SO disappointed when Doris left her cafe and it changed hands. So good to know that the food there is still great. Doris' relocated around the corner and I hear that she is still rockin the southern comfort food like the queen she is.
